Hi all,
I'm a recent user of the trial products but have a question that I need answered before I can make a buy decision. (NB I understand technology but wouldnt consider myself that au fait with alot of it)
want to have several independent sites mirrored/backedup to a central location, with this location then mirrored to another offsite location. Issues I have are as follows:
* central location is firewalled so how would I manage external links into this server.
* borland db, can this be real time replicated, or can scheduled tasks be performed on "open files".
* Is the applicaiton capable of supporting WAN/external IP traffic into the server if the external sites are firewalled as well.
The questions are probably answered in the documentation but your assistance would be appreciated.
regards
Patrick

Patrick,
PeerSync supports 2 mechanisms for transporting data between machines - Windows SMB protocol and FTP protocol. The SMB method is identical to dragging and dropping files across the network, however PeerSync is designed to perform these type of operations more efficiently. The FTP method is the standard for internet file transfer. Depending on the firewall constraints, one or both of these may be a possibility. Both methods are easy to test (through windows explorer and an FTP Client).
Generally communication across IP is best accomplished either through FTP to the setup of a VPN to tunnel a connection to the desired machines. This then allows PeerSync to see everything is needs to synchronize.
PeerSync does offer an optional Embedded Open File Manager which allows it to transfer open and locked files such as databases. This is currently performed at a minimum of every 30 minutes.
