Problem/Symptoms:
PeerSync takes longer to complete the initial scan when the global option to "Check for ACL changes during scans" is enabled. In particular, this occurs when PeerSync is scanning folders that contain many files (i.e. 1000) over a slow connection.
Applies To:
Product(s): PeerSync
Version(s): All
Solution:
During the scan PeerSync makes an API call which requests the ACL attributes of a file. For certain folders and on certain systems this call may take a while. You can simulate this call manually by trying to get the properties of one of your target files. The delay you experience in viewing the properties of a remote file is the same delay PeerSync will encounter for each file it tries to validate the ACLs.
To Resolve the Issue
Disable the "Check for ACL changes during scans" option. Without this argument PeerSync will replicate ACL changes in real-time provided that the "Transfer NT security descriptors (ACLs)" and "Monitor ACL changes during real-time" options are enabled. To replicate any legacy ACLs you may create a separate one-time/weekly/monthly Profile that is launched from the Windows Scheduler. Since the "Check for ACL changes during scans" option is a global setting you will need to create a new Profile rather than a new Job.
