Problem/Systems:

PeerSync throws the following errors when it encounters a folder during a scan for which it gets an "Accessed is denied" message:

Cannot Access Folder: C:\Folder\Path\ (Access is denied) [Error=5]...
Cannot connect to: C:\Folder\Path\...
Cannot connect to shared source device: C:\Folder\Path\ - Failed during Build of File List - Terminating Job Name: Job1 (Access is denied)...
Connection Failure: C:\Folder\Path\ (Connection Retry is Enabled)...
Connection Reestablished: C:\Folder\Path\...

...repeats...
This problem occurs under circumstances where PeerSync is run under a low privileged account such as a user that is only part of the Domain Users group.

Normally when PeerSync does not have access to a folder due to permission issues it logs a message and moves on. In this scenario synchronization is terminated for that Job and PeerSync enters the "Connection Failure" state where it continuously tries to connect to source folder.

Applies To:
Product(s): PeerSync
Version(s): All versions

To Resolve the Issue:
  1. Make sure the account under which PeerSync is running has full administrative rights to the directories you wish to replicate. At a minimum add the user to the Backup Operator group on the Local System if you do not wish to give them full rights. Note: If you add the user to the Backup Operator group PeerSync will not run as a service unless the user is also added to the Power Users group on the Local System.
  2. Upgrade to PeerSync v7.5 (To be released Q1 2009)

Sincerely,
Peer Software, Inc.
